 Duramax milage

I friend of mind has a similar GMC truck to my Dodge 3500. With the 6 speed and the Duramax he is averaging 12 miles a gallon.
I am at 19 and wish I had more. Is this common for the Duramax? I have never heard of a Cummins owner with that low of milage.

NO, that's not common at all . sounds like he's has an injector problem. the Durmax has had injectors issues. I regularly get 17 city and 19 to 20 highway running the juice edge. All them extra ponies seem to make the right foot a little heavy. Would probley get a mile or two better with a lighter foot.

I have a 2003 2500HD 4X4 Chevy and I get 18-19 around town and if I keep the lead out of the right foot which is hard to do with the Duramax I can get 23 on the highway at 72mph. I realy like the MAX engine.

My 2500HD is fairly new yet, but I'm geting 15 to 18 in town and 22+ on the highway. I've been able to get around 15 on the highway pulling a loaded trailer (8000+ lbs)

There must be a problem with the truck, my 7.3 PSD gets 22 mpg and its pushing 400+hp, I cant believe a Duramax is that much thirstier.

Best of luck.

In addition to the 2500HD, I also have a F250 with the PSD, it get about the same mileage with it. It doesn't see to have quite the towing power as the 2500. However, that could be all in the transmission. The 2500 has the Allison.

No Mark, those are US gallons. An Imperial gallon is 5 quarts not 4. The truck gets 27 miles to the Imperial gallon, which is about 22 miles per US gallon.

It got about 24 miles to the Imperial gallon before the mods., I gained 3 mpg doing the upgrades.

Best of luck.
