I burned a pile of wood the other day and after we had the fire going threw in some bamboo we had cut as tomato stakes. The Bamboo when off like gun shots or firecrackers.
Being the big kid we threw in a piece of Vivax, lumber grade material up to 8 inches in diameter with 3/8 inch walls. Naturally it sounded more like a cannon.
I had never realized that they would sound like that. I guess that is what encouraged the chinese to create firecrackers centuries ago.
