From what I see on the Ford site the EcoBoost (Turbo) is only available on 2WD models...rats! Also has 6 speed auto with manual shifters on some models (not available on turbo).

I'm sure their product integration will change once the new model is released. They had a limited product mix when the F150 EcoBoost was first released. The Ford F150 was awarded Motor Trend's truck of the year.
There are allot of good changes coming out of all the auto companies. I'm working with Chrysler on some fixturing projects for a new 8 speed RWD transmission. My next vehicle is going to be a Chrysler product because of loyalty to my business customer base.
Chrysler gets allot of bad press. You should drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit edition to see where they are heading and capable of. The saddle tan leather is an awesome beautiful interior,as are the dual moon roofs. An air suspension package offers different heights, depending on terrain and lowers at expressway speeds for better aerodynamics. It has rock climbing capabilities. (i.e. real 4x4)

We all have different tastes but to me the front styling on the Escape is awful, almost as bad as the happy faced Mazdas.
I'll give Ford credit for what they are doing with engines though, they used to consistently have the weakest hp per c.i. of any automaker (performance cars perhaps excepted) and they have made huge strides in that regard.
If you look at the Escape, and it has their Sync or MyFord Touch system, give it a thorough workout. They have a bad reputation for usability and reliability which is driving their JD Power quality numbers down and magazine reviews have recommended avoiding those options due to many operational glitches and driver distractions.

Yooper, apparently Jeep learned a lot from the Daimler Chrysler deal beyond merely automotive engineering.
I just priced out a Jeep Overland Summit online after reading your post.
It came out (without going crazy on options either) within literally a few thousand dollars of what I just paid for a new 2012 Mercedes ML for my folks.
Wow.
Best of luck.

Murf:
On an entry level, the Grand Cherokee Laredo isn't priced bad, however, with the Overland package it gets pricey particularly with the Summit upgrade. It sure is sweet but a shame to get all dirty and scratched trail riding!

Unfortunately they've (and all the others) gone the same way with pickups.
In the dozen years since I bought my 'work' truck the price of a top-level trimmed truck has gone from $50k that mine was to $85k today.
That's a SEVENTY percent increase! Yikes!!
Best of luck.

I hope in addition to changing the looks, they did something about quality. I recently rented a 2011 Escape XLT, and it was a piece of crap. Fit and finish sucked, 4 cylinder power was inadequate, uncomfortable seats, unimpressive fuel economy, way way too much road noise, lousy sound system, irritating transmission shift points. Maybe the 2013 will be an improvement. But the one they're selling right now is a waste of money.

Pretty much what I was thinking, sounds like maybe you'd have been better off driving your tractor.
Best of luck.

Yeah, 'cept the John Deere's got no passenger seat for the wife. I had to put up with that POS Escape for 11 days while my Touareg was 75 miles away at the dealership
