 100K PTO Generators on Sale

I cannot imagine the monster it would take run this generator. By my figuring, this thing would require 200 PTO shaft hp! Maybe a JD 8520? Not many of those floating around ehh??? They advertise that it requires 170 PTO shaft hp. I always thought 2 hp per KW was required? The backup PTO generator on my father's dairy farm was only 30K. Anyway, I didn't realize that PTO generators this big were made.

Just a thought how much HP does the PTO on a diesel pickup generate? Should be pretty substantial. The offer them as an option and I was curious.

Who needs 100K anyway unless your powering a small hospital?

Good point! Laughing out loud! I never thought about that. I would imagine your Power Stroke or my Cummins could generate every bit of 200 PTO hp. You are right, a 100k could power a small neighborhood. I have never seen a truck pto hooked up like that. Would be really interesting to see how it is done.

Hey all you need is some meters and you're in business. How much is a kilowatt these days Smile

That is about the only option I don't have, I too am curious how they work. My friend has the PTO but he got it because it was on the truck already. He has no use for it but I will take a look next time I see him.

I think on the Fords it is only available with automatics?

Don't get to excited about running one off your truck. Those PTO units are only good for 10,15,maybe 25 horsepower on a big truck.

Well, so much for that idea. Wink yeah right Learned something else new. I always wondered what the PTO's on our pickup trucks were intended to be used for. Probably just smaller accessories for the truck like a maybe a winch or small hyd. pump for a dump cylinder then?

It is about the only thing on the truck you can't find ANY information about. No wonder we didn't know anything about them So Sad.

I do have to take a look at one. I guess they would come in handy for running a small home generator Funny though I see kits for running generators and compressors off pulleys on the motor. I guess the PTOs really aren't that useful?

Anyone ever use one?

Generally pto pumps are located on or in back of transmission. Was not aware pickups would have that transmission option. The 1 tons used pumps on the engine to power hyds on small dumps or plows. I have seen spots on side covers of standard transmissions of small trucks, but suspect cost a limiting factor, for aux units.

Almost all mid size on up thru the very big quarry trucks and all large dumps and tractor trailer, dumps, live bottoms and walking floors have pto driven hyd either direct drives or thru shafts.

Capasities vary my current truck moves almost 40 gpm at 2400psi to operate the trailer planitary which moves a conveyor belt in the bottom of the trailer and moves a 33+ ton load.

Our dumps have baby pumps on them by comparison but still able to hoist 25 ton loads.

Go ahead rub it in wiseguy! Smile

I actually was thinking of this post when the power went out. I was getting hay at the local dairy farmer's place so I unloaded real quick and raced 80-90mph to BJ's and HD to buy the generator I saw on sale last week. No dice they were all closed. My buddy snagged a 9.7KW Wacker generator but it cost $2500at the local ToolShed, ouch!
The best I could do was get a power inverter ( at ShopRite)and hook it up to the old Powerstroke. It was good enough to run a fan, small tv/vcr combo, light, radio and charge cell phones.

We went in the pool to cool off and we have propane stoves so dinner wasn't an issue. My biggest issue is water for the horse but with the power inverter and a small sump pump I can go down to the reservoir (1/4 mile away) and fill 55 gallons drums with water as needed.

Well 6 hours later and the power is back on so all is well again.

I have been eyeing a Generac standby system that runs off propane for several years now. That is why I never bought a portable. The Generac Guardian is 7000 wats, runs on propane, turns itself on and off as a result of voltage drops and comes in a nice case with a base for $2200 with the power panel.

I AM GETTING IT WITHOUT DELAY
