2009 Hyundai Sonata Review
Rented a 2009 Hynundai Sonata from Hertz and drove it from NJ to Boston for a test drive of 550 miles.
The Sonata had a V6 engine with dual exhausts, looked very muscualr from the butt view, with chrome exhaust covers protruding through the bumper.
Highway cruising very nice at 80+ miles per hour, excellent acceleration.
Averaged 29.3 mpg on the whole trip.
Confortable fabric seats.
Cons: Poor guages, blue odometer difficult to read except at night, clock black LCD invisible.
Summary:
The Hynudai Sonata has come a long way, a very nice car, makes it tough to justify the extra cost of the superb intrumentation and fit and finish of Honda and Toyota.

2009 Hyundai Sonata Review
Good review. They've come a ways since the Pony, and the Genesis is doing to Lexus what Lexus did to Mercedes.
I'm surprised that Hertz offers foreign. I was puzzled by a news report that Ford (I think) announced it was giving up catering to the "fleet market" and maybe there's a connection.

2009 Hyundai Sonata Review
I read that since the economy has turned down the rental car companies are holding their cars longer, buying fewer new cars. Also it was a long term practice of Detroit to feed the fleet markets for the bragging rights to "Americas most popular sedan". A dubious honor in todays market, that practice also aided sales as people would rent it and maybe buy it for themselves if they were pleased with the car.
In today's market it is probably better for Detroit to only build what can be sold!
