6x4 gator load sceech type noise like belt poor braking
Is there such an animal as an alternator belt on these things, or is this related to this belt "between the two clutches" people are talking about..? How do I access these parts on a gator. Do I need to get under it, ie. put it up on ramps or anything? I am very mechanical but know nothing about these, just need some advice about how to get in there so I can see what I'm dealing with and some advice what to look for. Thanks

Humm;
OK, there is no alternator belt on a Gator.
The only belt is the drive belt, is the belt slipping under load? How old is the belt, they normally last a long time but do wear out. I've never heard one screech, but won't say they can't. If the drive belt is loose enough to screech then possibly the pulleys aren't sliding in and out to adjust the ratio or the belt is badly worn. A good shot of spray lubricant can help if nothing is broken inside the pulleys, try that. Some models have a brace that holds the engine in the correct position for the drive belt to work correctly, bolts have been known to break or lose out of this brace. I think it us under the engine, check that first.
You mention brakes, the brakes have nothing to do with the drive belt, but do haver a habit of screeching on some models, not sure about the 6 X 4's they may be internal.
Frank.

Sorry, I skipped part of your question on how to get in there to work on things. If your cargo box has a power lift or a mechanical catch on a hand lift you can disconect the power lift ot mechanical catch and tip the box farther back.

A screeching sound is more likely the brakes, if you are describing a sound that occurs while braking. They are wet brakes inside the transmission. Changing the trans fluid usually helps. JD also makes an additive to reduce the noise. How many hours on the machine?
