 submersible pump

I have a 3/8 acre x 6-7 ft. deep pond. I need a pump to areate water. Would a .5 hp harbor freight pump be suitable? HF says pump will pump 20 ft. or more high and pass waste about 1/2". Wont get a lot of use except during long hot summers in South Miss. Thanks for any advise I get. Dan

Dan,

Assuming your math is pretty close, here's how the numbers stack up;

3/8 of an acre (43,560 square feet) is 16,335 square feet.

16,335 x 6 feet deep means the pond holds about 98,010 cubic feet of water.

There's 7.48 US gallons in a cubic foot of water.

98,010 x 7.48 equals 733,115 gallons of water in your pond.

I'd say that pump would be better than nothing, but not by much.

We use 2hp jet pumps (lets the sediment pass harmlessly) to run a couple of fountain heads in a situation like that.

Best of luck.
