 What type of seed

There are several bare areas in my yard in need of reseeding. Most of these areas are well shaded by hickory trees. The Eco-Lawn seed advertised on this site sounds interesting, but, not knowing much about grass seed in general, I wonder if anyone might know of something else more economical that might perform similarly. I am in the NE Tenn./SW Va. region (zone 6, I believe).

I am also wondering if I should be concerned about endophytes as my lawn abuts my pasture.

I had never heard of endophytes before reading your post, so naturally I was curious. A good link I found explained them (link at bottom). Sorry for the stupid question but I'm not clear on why it matters if your lawn borders a pasture?

 What type of seed

I found another link that answers both my question and yours. While good for lawn/turf grasses in that they are toxic to organisms that can damage a lawn, endophytes can also be toxic to livestock.

The answer to my question: "A plant does not become infected from its neighbours. Therefore, a stand of a non-infected variety will remain non-infected. If it is over-seeded with an infected variety, only the new plants will be infected."
