Thinking about adding a ATV to the fleet as soon as I get the new Job. How important would you say having Independent double-wishbone front suspension is on a ATV. I am looking at the Honda 4wd 400cc. When I look at the 350 I do not see anything that talks about independent susp. I am adding it to the fleet so the kids will be able to run with me on the trails. Dont want any more than the 400cc. Fact is I dont even need that would love to have the 300 or 350 but woth out the upgraded suspension I feel it will be a rough ride. I have 2 disks that are protruding and can tell you that after a hour or so on my little honda recon I feel like I am going to pass out, Laughing out loud. I love the smallest one in the fleet but the suspension doesnt love me. I have founf that the samller they are the more manuverable they are thru the woods. Since I am not a big guy and niether are any of my kids a smaller rig fits my bill along with my pocket book. Since I own a tractor the wheelers are strickly for transportation and play with a small amount of work so small that it is usually just used to haul bulky items when I need to get somewhere fast.
So the question is
Ind. suspention or not?
Anything else that you consider important must haves?
Thanks

Pretty much all of them have ind front now. There are several that do not have it in the rear. I've had all of them over the years, honda, yamaha, suzuki and now Polaris. I think the polaris has the ride of a new caddy compared to the rest. Now that I'm getting older and closer to 40 than 35, the nicer ride is a plus.

I prefer a straight rear axle over the independent rear because it doesn't "wash out" on you when making crazy banked turns over bumps. it seems to be more predictible. Also, go with an automatic. I never though I'd want an A/T on a quad but once you have one you will never want to shift again. Just be sure the machine you buy has a high and low range.

Quite honestly, they are all good these days. It's a matter of the options you want and price. I have a couple of 10 + year old ones that still run great. Stay away from the chinese knock off junk. They are as bad or worse than the chinese tractors for 1/2 the price of a real one.

My buddy has a Polaris that I had rode on and off when working with him outdoors. Your right about the ride it has, its like floating on air. I just turned 40 myself and the ride is exactly what I was looking for. Laughing out loud Those darn bumps are not fun any more. I do not like larger models so I will stay with a smaller one. No hurry to buy yet but do want to know what exactly I should want and need before I start looking. ASA I get going I will let you know thanks
