Repairing Flat Tires on ATV s
My daughter ran over a stick which pierced the rear tire on the 250 Recon the 2nd time it has ever been ridden. I can see this may be a recurring issue. I was going to remove the tire and patch it from the inside with a tire patch but if this is going to be a recurring problem; I am wondering if treating all of the ATV tires with something like Slime or other tire sealant may be a better option.

We had the problem in the Mojave. Thorns in all the 3 wheeler (I hate dating myself) and motorcycle tires. They make or did make a thorn resistant tube it is about 3X as thick as a regular 1.
Not sure if would help with sticks. But me thinks if it is a stick, slime not gonna help either.
Also if thick tubes not avaiable try a tube with a another tube over it to add protection.
You might also look up Dennis Kirk off road tires and there was/is a motorcycle 4 wheeler one (can't remember name, CRS?) with off road desert stuff.

Slime it and all the other tires if you do not you will have flats every day. I put a quart of slime in each of mine. we have thousands of long thorn mesquite around here and it would not go two miles with out the slime. it works.

It looked like a piece of a Honey Locust tree thorn that I pulled out of the tire. The tire held air after I pulled the thorn out but I am sure there is a slow leak now. The hole is a small one

The ATV racers don't like slime but that is because they drive like their hair is on fire and the stuff will throw the wheels out of balance if you try to go real fast.
Two other products to check out: http://www.tireballs.com/
and Gemplers who now carries the mil-spec "bulletproof" tire goop the gumint puts in Humvee tires.

I like the wording they use at Bulletproof:
"Originally developed for military combat vehicles to seal bullet wounds".
Had never thought about "bullet wounds" in tires before. Wonder if it would work on "bullet wounds" in people?

Mark,
I emailed Ultra Seal and asked for some information as the info. I found on the net was kinda out dated. This morning Liz Aguirre (President of Ultra Seal) called me and I can say it was an enjoyable and informative conversation to say the least. She asked me to get her a listing of all the tire sizes I needed to treat and she would let me know how much sealant I needed to order. I intend to call her back tomorrow morning and place an order. I will post my observations and how it works after I have used it for awhile.

I will look forward to your report.
My ATV tires still have just air in them. The terrain where I ride is more likely to produce cuts from sharp rocks......... so I am still pondering what to do about that.
Might just carry a spare.

I have been using ultraseal for over a year in my rincon, kubota 900, trailers and ford tractors. Also in my kubota z21. Get the pump for putting it in under pressure, also some extra valve cores. If for some reason you stop up a core, forget trying to use it again. Nothing has leaked and have been on the road with the trailer over 80mph!
