JD Gator Transaxle Problem -- Help

Hello,
I have an older JD gator that we use for spraying. The issue I have is that the belt will slip off the rear pulley immediately under any load (fwd or rev).

The gator is 16 years old, but is a critical part of our operation.

Any ideas/thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

There are two or three guys here who are good with Gators but think they will want the model at least.

My guess is that your pulleys are gummed up with dirt to the point that the sliding half of the pulleys aren't slideing in to meet the belt. That's about the only way the belt could be loose enough to come off the pulley.
Try lubing the pulleys with some WD 40 where the little triangular holes are around the sliding half of the pulley and on the hub of the pulleys where the sliding half moves in and out. Be more than generous with the WD 40 to flush the gum and grit out.
If the pulley system and belt are original equipment a new belt wouldn't hurt and if things still don't work probably a replacement of the cams inside the poulleys along with the new belt.
Frank.

Thanks Frank...you're right. The disc are hard to separate. I sprayed generously with JB80 and the it helped some, but the belt will come off eventually on initial load. This is a new belt.

Can a guy buy just the cam or do I need to buy the whole clutch assembly?

I've never had to take one apart so far, so I won't give advice on something I haven't did. The WD 40 has always worked for me so far, but with 16 years of use things are probably getting worn to the point that an overhaul of the pulley assemblys is needed.
Someone here probably has a service manual that would share the steps needed to take them apart. Frank.

Looks like I need the whole clutch assembly...$250. But after 16 years and nothing other than normal maintenance stuff, I cannot complain. Thanks for your help.

One thing about having major brand equipment, parts are available for a long time, altho your wallet may suffer.
