I can believe that, one of the kids that works for me has an older E-Z-Go with a 600cc Rotax snowmobile engine in it.
They clocked it by pacing it with a car, they got as fast as 65mph before it got to "spooky" (his words) and they decided they really didn't need to find out what the top end was, they changed the clutch setup to a 'more torque' mode and added bigger tires.
The sky is the limit.

Iam still thinking about it. If I did go electric I would want 48v. I can get a 99 Yamaha 48v out of Alabama for 1600 plus 250 shipping. The batteries were new in 02. I cant find much info on replacement batteries and cost. I Just dont like electricity. The x used to tell me I was going to fall from a high place and get electrocuted !  . Dave

Dave, contact those good 'ole boys at the Big Game Pro Shop in my previous reply, they will sell you a 48v conversion kit for $400 (including the charger) and T-145 batteries for $100 a pop.
If you're going to upgrade anyways you might get a deal on a 'Handyman Special' with a suspect motor and no batteries, instead of paying for one in good condition and throwing away perfectly serviceable parts.
Don't forget you can always pack a genset along with you to recharge the batteries, if you check the spec.'s on those chargers I think you'll find it doesn't take much 120v power to crank up a 12v charger, every amp at 120v is 10 amps at 12v. those little whisper quiet Honda suitcase jobs would probably do the trick.
Besides, after the rifle goes bang the deer don't seem to mind the sound of a generator at all ....

murf, Thanx for the link. a couple of thoughts, the 48v conversion doesn't seem like much of a deal. Most 48v systems are only about 400 more than the 36 on a used cart and all the wireing is set up for it. Add the cost of 8 batteries to the 400 and 2k for a cart and your getting right up their before wheels/lift. The lynx that Northern Tool sells direct from club car has my interest at the moment.Mark H put a link up to it. Its $4,400 on easy pay with free freight. They are 48v with new T-875 batteries and completely refurbished, new brakes, new everything, bushings, seat, lift, tires, cart, camo. The problem is my damn Generac generator is louder than the 2210. Plus the noise in the days before the hopefull bang the generator would not be welcome. On the other hand I hope to have a cabin with power in the next three years. Dave

Dave, don't misled, batteries are NOT all the same.
T-875's have only 438 LEU's (Life Energy Units) the T-145's have 673 LEU's, the T-875's have only 295 minutes at a nominal 25 amps load, while the T-145's have 530 minutes at the same load, at 75 amps it jumps to 145 fr the T-145's while the T-875's have only 75 minutes at that load.
Those T-875's are the type of battery you were talking about pushing uphill for the last few hills.
I was talking about buying a 'handyman special' for $500 to $750 then adding all those little goodies on yourself. Most of the parts are readily available for little money and easily replaced with no special tools or facilities.

Murf, you gotta tell me where I can find a "handy man special" under $1600. That IS the handyman special. Add 250 for freight and $800 for batteries, 700 for a proper lift kit/wheels/ and a bed and lights and it WAYYYY more than I want to spend. . I am going to stick with gas. For $800 I can buy a new motor and the gas ones are pretty darn quiet too. I can get a '99 for 2100. Either I pay the tax here or the freight their it comes out about the same. Some dealers here are as high as $2800 for a '99. Dave

Dave if you want a really quiet gas unit, you can add a SuperTrapp at the end of the tail pipe. SuperTrapps have washer/disc baffles that you can add or remove to change backpressure. (Low end torque and noise) They are also USFS approved as a spark arrestor.
I have run these before on off road engines from 400cc to over 2 Liters and they work great. If you use the regular muffler and add the SuperTrapp in addition, you can make an engine very, very quiet. They are even using a similar exhaust on the USMC assault motorcycles. Very quiet.

First of all I wouldn't buy a 1999 to run around the woods with, if you're going to re-build anyways a unit as old as 20 years will still do the job just fine.
Have a look at the selection on the link below for the cheapie handyman specials. They have some old but VERY rebuildables for as little as $250, gas & electric. I would think you could do a lot of 're-conditioning' for the difference between these units and the premiums ones.

You're right about the noise though, the gas jobs are very quiet.

You'll love this, the boys from the golf coarse stopped by last nite as was out tinkering with the cart again waiting for the parts to get here to tear it apart. They took it for a ride and came back with a major smile as the tears from the wind were running down there face they were asking about how to do up the carts on the golf coarse! They normally run club cars so I couldn't help them off the top of my head but they said they will ge tone over for me. I think this is going to be a fun project. Murf I'm glad you said 99 was to new of a cart for the woods and not 98.
