If the ground was prepared properly it won't need any fertilizer until the second year, maybe the fall of the first year if you really must.

If fertilizer is absolutely required, try a mild liquid formulation if possible, otherwise the lowest blend you can find and be careful to get very even coverage so as not to burn it.

I would suggest, if it's not a huge area, to feed it with one of those in-line feeders full of something like Miracle Grow and just put it upstream of the sprinklers.

Best of luck.

For delicate grass or summer application without burning, I use Ringers. It can be gotten at larger HomeDepot stores and some Ace hardware stores. It is about $12-$15.00 per bag. It is totally organic like groundup chicken droppings. Atleast that is what it smells like when you broadcast it like regular fertilizer. Like Murf says, you shouldn't need anything right away unless you have real poor soil.

"poor soil" ??? down here in Mancelona we have "no soil", only blow sand.I was amazed to see that it came up as green and thick as it did. funny part is, it only came up like that where I went nuts with the straw [which was almost everywhere,12 bales on 1/2 acre].I did that since it has been so dry,and I have no way to water it.
