Spreaders Broadscast or Drop for Lawn Spreading
For Three acres of Grass is a three point broadcast spreader practical or is better to get one of those 5 foot drop spreaders.Whe I look at the 3PH spreaders they all seem to spread it too broad 40 feet, it would seem I would be blasting stuff all over the place into the gardens drive with such a wide spread or is this adjustable.Secondly are the 3ph spreaders more meant for agricultural use than lawn maintainance and calibration could be an issue?Any experience on turf would be helpful

Pete, a common mis-conception with 3pth implements is that they must be operated at 540rpm (or 1000rpm, as the case may be). This is not the case, your spreader is the perfect example, varying the rpm's will vary the spread of the material. Also, adjusting the height will do the same thing but to a lesser degree. After many years of experience I have discovered that the best tool for the job seems to be that which is handiest, have you ever driven a nial with pliers or an adjustable wrench because they were in your reach and a hammer wasn't? A 3pth broadcast spreader works just fine for seeding, it just takes a little experimenting (or experience) to get the adjustments just right, but then that's what it's all about right, time in the driver's seat? Spreaders Broadscast or Drop for Lawn Spreading
My local Kubota Dealer had a Herd seeder PTO cyclone spreader attached to a BX2200 sub compact. I must say that I sure like the looks of the spreader and how it would make guick work of seed, fertilizer applications of granular materials. Only downside was this one was made of galvanized steel not so good with corrosiion. I was also surprised by the apparent quality of these little BX's. They are very much the same as the B's just squished down lower on smaller tires. The axles and Motor hood are about about the same size. Even the loader except for the bucket seems very much the same caliber as the bigger B. They have taken steps to make it easier to "Quick Attach" a front blower as well not so on the Bigger B's. Yet as much as I thought they were better than expected, I did feel that while the B series look like miniature Farm tractors, the BX's do look like a Garden Tractor, and I would like to see some real life feedback on people who have used both to get an understanding of the trade offs.
