Another thing that can be handy is to bolt a garden cart bed or a large plywood box to a set of carry-all forks and create sort of a pick-up bed for the three point hitch.
You can even make a simple dump feature by rigging some casters under the rear lip, lowering, detaching the top link, raising the lift arms and driving a short distance.

Kwschumm, opt for the welder, you can fab up all kinds of tractor goodies for a lot cheaper than you can buy them. Ive made forks for front and rear of my tractor for next to nuthin. Just tell the wife about all the money you'll save on the imps you wont for the tractor.

KWS I,m a kinda build it yourself guy,and some what of a struggling dobber when it comes to welding.There are several affordable portable welding machine's out there that would do most anything you would like.As for your wife tell her that you need a portable GEN. in case the power goes out. rookie, thanks for the link. My wife wouldn't buy the "we need a generator" line since we have a 14 kW generator standby generator hooked up already. Maybe there's a combination welder and espresso machine - she'd go for that in a minute!

I have an old boat trailer that's seen too much salt water to ever go on the highway again. I plan to shorten the tongue and put a 4' x 8' plywood deck on it. It won't be much work at all- just a matter of getting it to the top of the priorities list. Whichever way you go, I would certainly go for a two wheel, so you can back it.

I use an el cheapo garden tractor trailer from Sears and it
is great ! It was only $ 100 or so and it holds like 500
or 600 pounds.....I originally bought it for my Sears garden
tractor, but when I upgraded to the JD 4100 HST, I just
had to modify the hitch on the tractor to handle the thicker
drawbar
