  TECUMSUH GENERATOR CARB ADJUSTMENTS

I have just purchased a generator with a Techumseh 10hp horizontal engine. The engine runs rough and bacfires even when warm. The carburator has been generically set at the factory with no adjustments. Will a regular carb repair kit fit after I remove the factory jetting? Does anyone have a solution or options to this problem? The Techumseh dealers I have called told me to call my congessman because it's the EPA there is nothing they can do!!

  TECUMSUH GENERATOR CARB ADJUSTMENTS

Thanks for all of the replies. I can be more specific. There are NO adjustment screws on the carburator, NO hidden plugs like on early eighties carburated cars and light trucks. This 10hp engine has fixed removable jetting, I have taken apart the carburator. I can rule out timing and spark or mechanical properties of the engine-here's how; When the engine is running I can manipulate the choke lever to get the engine to run smoothly/ indicating a fuel air mixture problem. Yes plenty of fuel flow and the float is set correctly. This engine will be used at sea level and up in the mountains of Maine, How do I compensate for the difference in air density at higher elevations without adjustments (main and secondary mixture screws)? If your engine runs great you may be at the optimum elevation and air density. The engineers who designed this non-adjustible carburator had to pick certain specifications to try to compensate for all conditions, not reality. I am hoping someone out there has performed a retrofit or knows if the Techumseh standard carburator repair kit with main and secondary mixture screws will work.
