The light bulb price is the best in town (Dallas) and we are getting everything at 10% discount. The ballast price is also the best (because it's the only) price in town, but it's coming from L.A.

The total price includes $12.50 for the lamp, and $40.00 for the ballast. It's all or nothing because one doesnt work with out the other. The fixture is most likely to blame in causing the an overheat situation, however the engineers insist the fixture is good, the ballast folks say the design is wrong, the lightbulb folks want me to try another brand which is couple buck more expensive. While everybody argues about what is going on, my costomers dont have lights.

I know these things are under warranty, but honestly I would need to hire a full time guy just to keep track of light bulb paperwork if I took that route.

A lot of CFLs are not rated for enclosed fixtures. We have enclosed fixtures in our mud room and they burn out fairly fast there. We leave those lights on a lot, and CFLs would be perfect for that application, but I have yet to find a suitable CFL on the store shelf that is rated for enclosed applications (not that the search was intensive).
