A Banging Noise
I recently installed a 2 inch Super Lift on my '98 half-ton truck. In this lift, it drops the front differential down 2 inches and has new upper control arm brackets to keep the geometry correct. The lift is gained from cranking the torsion bars up. Everything went fine on installation of the lift and 33" tres...looks nice too. The problem is when I go over little "hills" and the suspension extends, sometimes I hear a banging noise one time. Could I be "maxing-out" the amount of travel that the front end has? Could it be the front sway bar? Any input would be appreciated...this is my first dealing with an IFS system...all my other trucks have be 1987 or older with a solid front axle.

From the description, it's not clear what moved and what didn't. But it sounds like you have new locations for the suspension arms. You did not mention anything regarding the shocks. If the frame mounting point for the shocks stayed the same but the control arms were lowered by 2", then you are probably hitting max shock extension.
Easy test: measure the shock length (either eye to eye or the exposed shaft length. The jack up the truck and measure again. If the difference isn't much then you are hitting the max extension of the shock.

Good advice!!! The other thing you can do is to leave your dog at home and let your wife back in the cab of the truck. That "bang" is probably her head hitting the cap!

I believe I had the torsion bars cranked a bit to high. I backed them off slightly and have not heard that bang and also have a better ride. The control arms did not change location, only the differential (therefore the axle shafts as well) dropped 2". The control arms angled down 2" more as I tightened up the torsion bars. Very simple set-up...but if I had it to do over, I would opt for the 4" lift even though it is quite a bit more expensive.

You probably did already but any more than 2 turns of the torsion bar nut and you need a front end alignment. Don't wear out those new sneakers too soon.

Haven't yet...wanted to figure out what was causing the noise prior to alignment. It is going in next week. Good reminder though.
