I have the gas version of the extended cab 2500HD. I'm most likely going to get the Diesel 4 door in the next year. Reason I'm going for the 4 door - it's a huge pain getting things in and out of the back seat when you're parked next to someone. I almost always have something in the back seat - so I deal with this a lot.

Just my 2 cents worth on the extended cab.

Jason

I have an 05 GMC 2500 diesel I get 20 mpg hwy,and when I pull my bota 7510 I get 16-17mpg hwy. You can figure on loosing 1.25 mpg per 1000 pounds you are pulling. The diesels have no peer when pulling, you have to remember you have a trailer on though cause you can hardly tell. I have 3:73 axle. Also, don't put biger tires on or you will burn more fuel especially when pulling.

I replaced a GMC 2500 gas with a Chevy K2500HD crew cab diesel this past year. I love the new truck. I had the extended cab before but I like the crew cab even better. It has the HD diesel that puts out a lot of torque. It also has the Allison 6 Speed. It tows so much better than the gas truck it replaced that it is not even a fair comparison. It is also very quiet. When at a stop light, I can hear other brands of diesel trucks idling over the normal sound of my engine. It is definitely the quietest diesel that I have heard. I have put 15K miles on this truck since 2006.

I average about 16 MPG when driving to work. I averaged 9 MPG for a short trailer tow without much highway. The towed weight was about 13K.

Sounds like fairly reasonable expectations for mileage. My Cummins runs 16 around town or towing and will jump up to about 18 on straight highway use.
