I had a friend in Indiana that had a clock that maid sounds like the old steam trains on the hour.
I once saw a phone that made the steam train sounds when it rang.

Shortmagnum, where did you get the grapple hooks for your FEL? It looks like it doesn't require any additional hydraulics. Ballpark price? Sorry, I know this is off-topic, but just noticed it in your pics.

Ardician, I made these last year so that I could pile logs after skidding them out. They were made from 3" x 5" rectangular steel with 1/4" thick walls. The steel cost about $70 (I happened to find some used pieces). I paid $125 for the quick attach plate but they could probably be made much cheaper. I suppose with welding rods and cutoff blades and nuts & bolts I have $250 and two long evenings of work into them.
You're right, they don't need any additional hydraulics which made them attractive. The trick to them working is that they point down when the tips are at ground level and still have a little downward angle at the highest point of the pile. This allows the logs to roll off when you release them. It works much better than forks because you don't have to get underneith the log to lift it plus you can clamp down on them to move and pile.
I had a powerpoint drawing of the basic geometry that I'll post again in my pix if I can find it.
It's in pic #11. It's just drawn from memory, but the idea is there. I made a full size cardboard cutout that I taped to the loader to get the geometry right before making full size drawings on poster board.
