 Subaru Forester Tranny Problem

the old jeep was a gear or solid drive all the way. You were in or out as far as the drive goes with no questions but a bit unforgiving in the area of front rear balance. I don't know the drive system at all and itmight just be a coupler on a shaft like a u-joint but that normally gives a vibration when getting started if not some whine while driving.

 Subaru Forester Tranny Problem

My Cherokee was one of the first Quadra tracs. It had the GM TH400 transmission and the sturdy alumium chain driven transfer case. It had rare front are rear ends, I am not sure if they were limited slips or what. The thing would go anywhere. I had it walking on glare ice and steep hills a couple of times.

The one Subaru system is essentually the old locked tranfer case with the computer locking up the clutch when needed.

Art, its got an automatic transmission. Peters, I suspect you are right its probably the the Active AWD since this is not a luxury Subaru. My daughter has the same car only two years older and she does not have this problem. I also have a 2002 Jeep Cherokee (Grand Limited) with AWD that is seamless. Thanks for the advice - I will check for recalls, although I would have thought the dealers would have done this on my two trips to have this looked at.
