I haven't seen anything on here re: toy tractors...I buy 1/16 scale John Deere's for my oldest son on his birthday every year, and 1/16 CIH for #2 son on his birthday. They rarely play with them, more or less just display them. I'm looking for a nice way to display them...maybe a simple shelf for each of them painted the appropriate color. Any ideas? Anyone else getting their kids interested in this great hobby?

Kids nothing. I was at the dealer the other day and there was a couple with an armload of JD toys. I commented to the lady that any kid would love one of those, and she said they weren't for the kids - they were for her husband who was standing sheepishly nearby. We all got a laugh out of that and I told the husband that any guy would understand.

A good idea and also not a new one: My grandfather gave me a JD tractor model for Christmas one year in the early '50's and implements for a few following years. I still remember those models and wonder what ever happened to them. My cousins may have received them also but maybe not since they were on farms around the real thing and all my uncles had IH equipment.

The models were great but as advertising the models may not have worked so well. My grandfather treated the thought of anything other than JD equipment and Chevy pickups as something approaching sinful but when it came to it I bought Fords--tractor and truck. The models sure must have simplified Christmas shopping for a few years for my grandparents who had a bunch of grand kids and I still remember them with pleasure.

Just a followup, my oldest son turns 8 next week, and I have a JD 1/16 6240 on the way for him...I'm building a shelf in their room from old barn siding, hopefully will do their collection proud. I have a a baby daughter due any day...I hope she knows that she will be collecting New Holland tractors every year! Smile
