 Sun Java Desktop

As someone who once believed in Sun Microsystems, I am wondering if anyone out there in TractorPoint land has installed Sun's Java Desktop.

I got a developer copy because of my jPlan business, but I have not sacrificed one of my Windows PC's to the cause yet.

Could get me into trouble witht he wife and kids, because I would be doing it to one of tghe machines they use.

Sun's Java Desktop is a Linux based replacement for your Windows Operating System and is packaged with Star Office, Sun's version of Office.

Funny thing is that last week I was creating a presentation and my XP system was locking up not letting me save the powerpoint to the file system. (I still have this problem with Outlook for attachments). So I downloaded Sun's Star Office eval software. It actully is pretty good, so much so I really don' t care if I get MS office up again.

Dennis

OK!

I know you are all interested.

I sacrificed one of my PC's to Sun's Java Desktop.

(and also some of my wifes files by accident)

So far it is much better / simpler than other installs I have done with Linux on a laptop (about 6 years ago)

The software has come a long way. I now use Sun's StarOffice on my windows XP as well as the new Java Desktop.

Printers continue to be a problem, particularly the Canons I have. Luckily I found a driver from TurboPrint for the s820 I have, but no dice on the MP730.

Still getting used to the Java Desktop, have to try it for a couple of weeks.

My spouse and kids are my guinea pigs on this, life is not always fair is it? If they can get used to it then maybe anyone can

Dennis

Dennis FYI
I used the Star Office for years as it was initially developed by Xerox. It was actually the first Wysiwyg program for word processing. In the eary 90's Xerox combined with Sun to place the Star program on their systems rather than Xerox's proprietary systems.
From what I remember of it I would assume it still surpasses Words capabilities.
I certainly considered going Linux as MS is hold their system pretty dear. When I first converted there were few drivers available for XP if that is any consolation.
