New house construction
We broke ground for a new house this week, check my pictures 9 & 10. I was at the site at lunch and excavation is complete. Now I can begin filling the hole with dollars. Scheduled completion is late September or early October.
It's exciting but with some concern as to building costs and interest rates. Hope I have enought left over to pay the utilities.

Ah the construction site! These are exciting times. So tell us a bit about it. What type of foundation did you decide on? What style house? Are you doing any of the work yourself?

If you get a builder and go over the plans and make pen and ink changes make sure that the builders sub contractors get all of the pen and ink changes. That way they will all be on the same page, literaly. Good luck.

New house construction
Shortmagnum,
We are building a 3100 sq/ft single story ranch, French country style with a full basement. The basement is poured concrete. I am using 9 ft basement walls to allow for HVAC, electric, and plumbing runs without cutting joists. I am also using the engineered "I" joists.
One end of the basement will be at ground level allowing inside access for my tractor and equipment. Additionally, we will have an attached two car garage. If the money holds out my wife will insist on an inground pool next spring. Dave

SG8NUC,
Thanks for the advice, hopefully, I have this covered. I took a house plan found on the internet and have modified it to better fit our needs. I am profficent with autocad, so it wasn't to big of a job, just time consuming. I can keep my builder up to date with any changes by printing new drawings.
I have known my builder for quite sometime and we can work together. So far he has been very corporative in making adjustments. Some of the items that have already come up are lighting, motion detectors, dimmers, etc. He has told me to purchase what I want and his electrician will install them.
One can only hope that this continues. Dave

If I can think of anything else I will let you know. The reason I brought this up is that my garage was turned the wrong way and I was going to have to put the washer and dryer in the back yard. The plummer and the concrete people never got the updated plans. best of luck.
