 Kerosene = deisel fuel

I'm a coupe months away from finishing my house....currently living in a moile home heated by wood stove and a monitor kerosene heater (love that thing!)...I'm almost out of kerosene...I only need about 30-40 gallons to get me through to when I can start living in the new house while I finish it...Local kerosen suppliers deliver with a 100G minimum...don;t want to send that kind of cash, and then it would also be harder to move the tank when I get rid of the trailer (keeping the monitor heater though) being the tank would still have a lot of fuel in it..

A neighbor told me that kerosene is the same thing as deisel gas...If' that's true I could just buy it five gallons at a time at the local gas station..

anyone know what the truth is on this? Is it the same thing? will it work? will it hurt my heater?

DeTwang; Kerosene and Diesel fuel are not the same. heaters designed for kerosesne just don't work with diesel, been there done that. Seversl convenience stores around here have a kerosene pump on a 500 gallon skid tank for small quanitys, check around I'll bet you find one. Best of luck. Frank.

Check your kero heater's manual, the one I have is a multi-fuel; burns kero, #1 and #2 diesel, JP8, and jet-A fuel.

Kerosene I believe has more parafin wax in it. Diesel can have additives in it for anti-gelling and low sulfur. And it has special lubricating additives for engine use. If the heater is not the type where you breathe the exhaust vapors like with a torpedo or salamander, I wouldn't worry about it short term. My buddy uses diesel in his kerosene torpedo (a big one rated at 200,000 BTU)---when it starts up a big grey clouds puffs like a semi-tractor and smells just as bad. Kerosene burns cleaner but just like diesel if you breathe it too long your tongue will feel like it twice the size--not to mention feeling dizzy, and the eventual keeling over from carbon monoxide poisioning.

Somewhere in your area, probably at the fuel distributors base, there will be a kerosene pump where you can buy it by the gallon.
