Cost of pole shed
Since moving to my new shop it has become aparent that I just plain don't have enough room for everything. If I were to put up a simple no frills pole shed with common barn steel, no windows, sliding door on one end and a walkin door, no concrete, just a gravel floor, what would my aproximate cost be to have it built by a pole barn firm? I would need some dirt work done ahead of construction, but I can handle that muself. My thoughts are running in the 36X60, with 10ft. eave height size. Does longer and narrow cost about the same as wide and shorter due to longer trusses or needing more poles, etc. Thanks, Frank.

Frank, we built nearly the same thing a couple of years back up at the summer place as a secure place for storage (I.E. the 'toy box') except mine is 40' x 50' and 12' at the eaves in case I ever wanted to put bigger stuff away.
The enamelled steel alone cost me about US$3,500 (but I got all the trim etc., to make it look 'finished') but if you went with galvanized it would be a little less.
The wood was cut from trees (hemlocks mostly) I had to remove to make room for the building and driveway to it.
All the construction and site prep. was done by myself and a 4 employees, start to finish it was done in 4 days with all the lumber and steel and the foundation ready before we started.
If you base the labour on your local market rate, times 4 men a weeks work time, you should be close for a simple building.

Last year I got a quote for a 40 by 60 by 10. No frills - stone floor (not concrete) No electric, one slide door one single walk in door. ± $18000

Around here the going price for labor only is $2.50-$3.50 (sometimes more) based on total surface area---roof and sides (NOT sq. footage of the floor). No dirt work, concrete, electrical, permits, etc.
I charged $2 a sq.ft surface for an 18x32 with 12/12 pitch and a 10x32 lean-to. Will never do that again--way too cheap. Built it by myself over the course of a month in the hottest and most humid summer in years. About killed me. After that I bought a 40' manlift and now I'm spoiled---what is a "ladder" for anyway?

I'm using BCI Barn Builders to build a 30x50x16 pole barn w/15x50 shed attached. They're currently advertising a 30x50x10 w/o shed for $6,195 (matls,delivery and construction). Also a 40x60x12 w/15x60 shed for $11,895. They come with 1 12 ft sliding door and 1 walk in door. After a six month search, they're by far the least expensive I've found. Unfortuneately they only build in the following states: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Colorado. It's hard for me to remember when we got away from simple "POLE" barns/sheds. We were still building with 6"-8" at the top round treated poles in the mid 60's. Rough cut Hemlock, the trusses were built from 2x6 and scrap wood. Barn board siding with bats was always used. Steel was and still is the most expensive component.
If you have to deal with codes and permits you have to do what you have to do.
I'd check with a Amish group for a "shed raz-in".
The price of steel has gone crazy...
Mortons and Finger Lakes (here in central NY) will give you a huge cut if they can build at their convenience and at off season. (least ways here). But we have several groups doing this.

harvey; After the smoke cleared I ended up putting up a frame building with a conventional asphalt shingled 4/12 pitch roof, chipboard sheathing, coverd with regular vinyl siding on a concrete stem wall. When it was complete I did compute the final cost on a sq. ft. basis, but I can't find that post back, it is in here somewhere. The building did cost a bit more than a steel clad pole shed but only by the cost of the stem wall. It of course isn't quite big enough but it is going to have to do,the mrs has put a ban on futrue shed building around here, Frank.
