Since email is essentially not capable of expressing emotions, a subset of email etiquette sprung up to convey emotions, etc.
You are correct in stating all caps is equivalent to yelling. BIN LADEN IS A BUNGHOLE is an example. My mother used to type is all caps when she first started on email. I would open up the message a literally jerk backwards at the implied "loud voice" of the email. Weird reaction, really.
was started as a way to show you are smiling/humor.
WTF - What the fudge
ILCC - I like Cottage Cheese
And there are more that I just can't think of at the moment which is dumbfounding me. Cafeine level must be dropping.

David,
It would appear you could write about anything with no real words using this site.
Now I don't remember thank you.

there's another site called ... netlingo.com they also have links and definitions to all the 'smiley' face stuff :p & etc. Maybe Dennis, with our help could build a tractorpoint lingo page for tractor abbreviavtions. Took me awhile to figure FEL stood for front end loader not a brand name.

Woodie, I sgree with your assessment of FEL. MMM also threw me off for awhile when I joined up. Most people already understand 3pt, PTO, etc.
I'm gald someone put up the list. I was suprised when I stumbled across TTS on the list. Made me smile as I can't say it out loud at work.

What is really scary is that kids in chat rooms use their own language so to speak when talking with each other so even if their parents are looking over their shoulder they have no clue what is going on. I saw a show on that on Dateline or something similar. If you have kids, you need to educate yourself as much as you can on computers.

"Rents" means Parents are in the room. Sometimes its good to monitor your kids communication. I found one lady who was a supposed friend of ours who was giving my daughter advice on how to run away from home.
She was telling my daughter "If you leave before you are 18 your parents have to pay for your expenses and there's not a damn thing they can do about it". I kept the note - it still amazes me.
Needless to say that ended our friendship. Also - my daughter is now a civil engineer in Washington DC, quite well adjusted, and calls us every night.
