I was told that the whistles are different and one is suppose to go on one side and the other on the other side. It was something about putting them on wrong side they wouldn't work right. I can't remember where I heard that from. I'm all ready suffering from CRS and I'm only 31!!! Is there any hope for me?

Whistles and cow catcher bumper guard don't work. My brother-in-law has an Avalanche with the whistles and the cow catcher front end add-on. He just hit a deer, the whistle didn't appear to work and the cow catcher got bent too and only cost $2,500.00 to fix. Didn't even kill the deer.

Commercial snowplows work REALLY well as 'deer catchers', they even fire the body into the ditch instead of leaving it in the road if the blade is angled correctly.

One of my guys got one last week on his way out with the spray rig, it was dark and he didn't see it until it was too late. Luckily the spray tank was full, the back end tends to get kind of light with the wieght of the blade up in the air, a big hit like that might have spun him around, or at least made it unstable. Mind you with 1,000 gallons sloshing around evasive maneuvers or sudden stops aren't going to happen even if he HAD seen it coming.

Best of luck.

Mark, on the cosmic scale your stars must have been lining up 'cause I can't believe you weren't squished like a black hole.

A deer totalled out my wife's Bonneville a couple of weeks ago. I drew her a picture of her new Accord with a crash panel that looked like the Kubota grill guard that comes with the FEL only wider. Let's just say she didn't think it was half as funny as I did...

I was talking to a body shop guy a while back. He had a Honda Civic that hit a large dog and did about $75.00 damage to the grill.

Also did $7000.00 (!!!!) damage to the interior when the air bags deployed.

Two years ago, my wifes mother was killed by an airbag. Keep those kids and elderly folks in the back seat.

Ken... I came mighty close that day. Lots of folks have died in such circumstances.

I had just enough time to swerve toward the guard rail and put the moose carcass through the passenger side of the windshield.

Good training saved my butt several times.

Many years back when airbags were first out I was at the local Ford store getting some touchups done on one of my trucks.

When I went into the body shop office there was a lady standing at the counter REALLY chewing out the manager, a super nice guy, and all he could say was "I'm soory ma'am, it's the LAW, I HAVE to put a new airbag back into your car!".

Undeterred she said if it had an airbag in it she didn't want it back, PERIOD.

When she turned around I almost lost control of my bladder!

She had two black eyes and a huge bruise on her forehead which was in the form of an absolutely PERFECT impression of the Lincoln logo.

She had bumped another car in the course of parking hers at the mall and the airbag had deployed.

After she left I suggested to the body shop manager that no matter WHAT vehicle she drove there would be a "bad airbag" in it..... it was then his turn to nearly lose control of his bladder.

Best of luck.

The newer cars have the second generation bags that deploy a bit slower than the original ones did. My wife said she felt no bruising whatsoever so I expect they work as intended. The airbags were about $2000 of the repair cost.

You're right though, keep the kids and older people in the back seat.

Thought I'd give you folks the update on the dead Jetta.

It will LIVE again!! $35 fender, $60 (!!) for a headlight and turn signal, free left over paint (From 2 years ago "driveway" paint job), free use of the paint booth at work and tomorrow -- Reassembly!

I brought out my Dodge truck from semi-retirement to use, but as much as I love my Dodge, 45mpg from the Jetta can't be beat! She just runs too well to junk!

BTW had to put new batteries in the Dodge, and found that Semi tractor type ( type 31-P case ) batteries of 950 amps are much cheaper than the oem small case batteries. A bit of plastic trimming was all that was necessary to fit them.

Just some more useless info from your Uncle Larry.
