John Deere Gator 2004 CX Hood operation

Just picked up 2004 CX, and I can't figure out how to get the hood open! Looks like you stand in front of the machine and grab the center of the hood and just pull, but it feels like maybe there are catches on the sides? I'm probably just not pulling hard enough, but I hate to break things, you know? Smile

Sounds like a loose nut behind the steering wheel. Smile

There are plenty of guys here with gators--even a guy "gatoraider"--who works on them. Give these guys a few hours to wake up and they'll get you on the road/trail again.

I went to the JD website and found the Operator's Manual online:

http://manuals.deere.com/cceomview/OMM150904_K4/Output/Index.html?tM=GC

or the link below:

Okay, the link isn't working totally---you'll need to click on the link, then at the left-side window pane scroll down about 3/4 the way to "Service Misc.", then scroll down to "Open and Closing Hood".

It's hard to imagine that machine doesn't have a little more than 9 HP.

Thanks earthwrks, good link. I had searched online but hadn't found that manual, there's a lot more info in there than the book I got with the machine.

There is a little trick to opening the hood, easy once you read the manual though. Someone in the past didn't read the book as one of the plastic catches for the hood is partly broken - exactly what I would have done if I just kept pulling! Smile

So thanks again...

So did you get the hood open?

Also, that JD link has parts diagrams too which are invaluable for doing you're own repairs when you teardown something.
