 gator runs wide open

Here we go again!! We thought we had our gator fixed and decided to take it out & blow the cobs out of it. We were going full speed & came to a curve so let up on the gas but it kept going full speed. I had to turn the key off to slow down. What a thrill!!!
Looked at the carb.& saw the throttle was still wide open. The arm that goes inside the motor moves but would not pull the carb. back to idle. Help Wink yeah right

That's what you get for hot rodding. There is a plastic gear with a flyweight attached that operates the arm you are speaking of, I'm reasonably sure there are no teeth left on it. Replacing involves pulling the motor and removing the case cover. When ordering you also have to get the stem ( sleeve )that operates the arm, they don't come together. Your old sleeve, even if it is good, is not compatable with the new governor. When removing the case cover you can leave the water pump on it, just remove the top three bolts that go all the way to the crankcase and it will come off with the case cover. You have an oval gasket that seals the oil pump that should be changed as well.

Thanks for the reply Gatoraider. You should have been there-- dust was flying everywhere. I should have had my goggles on. Now back to bussiness--
Our gator does not have a water pump. Do you still have to take the engine out to remove the case cover? If so how hard of a job is it for this repair?
Thanks again Bob H.
YOLO!

Bob, if your serial number is WOO6X4X024590 or something like that you have a water pump. It's that little thing behind the muffler, bolted to the case cover, that the radiator hose goes into. It's not a hard repair, but if you can't find the water pump you may have another whole different motor in there and I may be blowing in the wind. If you can find it, my previous post applies.
