 6 x 4 Gator Starter

My gator suddlenly developed a problem. When I turn the key on just to the first position the starter starts turning and won't turn off.

Any idea's?

It's almost gotta be the starter switch. If the starter is running that means the red wire connected to the solenoid is hot. It gets it's voltage from the switch, it's just getting it one click too early.

Tried a new switch and that didn't do it. Did a little more trouble shooting though. Here is what I found. If the ignition switch is turned to the first position the starter will start turning. Even if the gator is in gear. So it's ignoring the safety switches. It won't actually try to start or fire until I turn the switch to the second position. I can then hear it trying to start but it wont keep running with the starter constantly turning.
Also the engine won't actually fire if it's in gear. I have to put it in neutral and turn the switch to the second position to hear it trying to fire.

Is there a relay in that system that could stick on?

There is a start relay that is a single relay on the upper frame rail near the voltage regulator. It has a yellow, 2 reds, and a purple wire in it. If it is stuck, that would create a path to the starter. It isn't supposed to pull until you go to the start position and create a ground thru the neutral start switch. Sounds like your next move.

Replaced the relay and still doing the same thing. So that relay is getting energized when the switch is moved to the first position. I don't suppose anyone has a schematic on-line for gators do they?

Just read the fine text on the verify of an email address. Seems like there is a two week delay. Any chance I can get you to just email the schematics to cwarren58 at gmail.com?

Thanks

Thanks for the help. The schematic did it. Must have been some kind of weird logic problem. Once I pulled power from the starter solenoid and manually applied power to turn the starter. It started right up. Then when I put everything back together it was fine. Not sure if it was feeding power back through the ignition module or what.

Cam
