Gator clutch
Hey everybody,
At my job we use a Gator 6x4 and we recently are having problems with the clutch. For some reason it keeps sticking when its in forward (sometimes reverse too), mostly when its floored or close to it when the belt is pushed all the way down between the plates. When we slow down and basically come to a stop it finally becomes unstuck but completely shuts the machine off on its own. We tried sanding the rough edges of the clutch down for less friction and greasing it up a bit but it doesn't work. But like I said it mostly gets stuck when its floored not half throttle. Perhaps the spring is the problem? Just looking for some suggestions.

The one right next to the transmission I believe. I'm not an expert on this so I'm guessing. It's a 1995 if that helps at all.

There is a primary on the motor and a secondary on the transaxle. I assume you are talking about the secondary. You either have a broken spring, they are heavy and rarely break, or the sleeve in the three ramp helix is binding on the center post of the stationary sheave. You can take them apart, but you have to be real good to put them back together. Best bet is to spray WD40 on the post and inside the sleeve and move the helix angles back and forth away from the plastic buttons on the movable sheave and try to loosen it up. Be sure to clean it with carb and choke cleaner before you put it back in service.
