Gator 6x4 what oil to use for winter time in mn
just bought this 2006 6x4 gator without manual, so would like to know what weight oil to use this winter. It also is hard to shift from forward to reverse & vise versa unless of course the motor is shut off. The idle is not to high, so any ideas.

On the earlier 6x4s there is a pawl on the shift arm that rides in the shift block that sits in the groove of the shift collar. These pawls are welded into the shift arm and sometimes the weld breaks and the pawl won't fall out, but it will get side ways in the shift block and bind up and make it hard to shift. I can't think of anything else that would cause hard shifting other than too high idle. You have to pull the transaxle and split the case to fix it, if that's it. Also there are roller bearings on the input shaft under the gears that can go bad and slow things up in there. Either way, you have to pull the transaxle. Oil wise 10W-30 should be ok. Castrol or some good oil.

I just checked the owners manual for my XUV and it doesn't give engine oil recomendation for a diesel, they must have a different owners manual for diesel models.
Just guessing here but I would think yours would call for a diesel rated oil of whatever grade Deere redomends. Check for with your dealer for sure. Frank.
