  Gator turns but won t start

Hi, Im new here looking for a solution to something totally different but have seen similar problems. The engine in question 18 hp kawi twin originally came through with a plastic cam gear, couple hundred hour failure. Your pistons dont move, yay... not your problem. Starter in question runs? Three choices but they are all the same design. Electro mechanical engagement and trigger. Solinoid needs to fully retract to engage the contacts. Yours runs. There is a rubber to steel clutch to protect the flywheel from damage. Lots of stop and go such as mucking barns in a cold climate? They either seize or slip? hope that helps.
