Popping noise when going up a hill
Ive owned my gator 4X6 for 7 years and took it for a spin around the farm, went up a steep hill and the transmission popped like a chain skipping a tooth. It was in 2wd mode it also pops in 4wd. Also, didn't have enough power to get up the hill, a hill I could routinely climb in the past with the same gator however now it pops. Any Thoughts???

Popping noise when going up a hill
Humm;
I don't think Deere ever made a 6 X 4 with four wheel drive.
Perhaps it isn't getting fully into gear the linkage from the shift lever to the transmission needs adjusting. I'd get it checked out soon before something expensive gets chewed up.

Popping noise when going up a hill
I dont believe that it's a shift lever problem. The reason I say that is because it never makes the popping noise unless the vehicle is on an incline. If Im just driving around it never pops. Its not until you put it under a little load she pops on you. Ive read all of the discussions on the board and I havent seen anything else close to this. I will give a close inspection to the linkage as you sugested. Is there anything else that I should be looking for?

I've never owned a 6 X 4 but I'm sure the two rear wheels are driven by a roller chain from the powered axle in front of them, perhaps the chains have become loose enough that they are jumping on the sprockets.

Popping noise when going up a hill
I'm not sure if my comment will apply. However, I have a mid-90's turf gator that was making a loud popping noise and then one day quit working. It turned out after splitting the transaxle, it was breaking the teeth off the differential. I hope that is not what happened to yours.

My thoughts are your chains are dry and need lubed and you may be running on one cylinder. Check the temperature of both exhaust pipes going into the muffler.(put a pair of gloves on)

Definitely check the tension on your drive chains.

Teeth on the splined connector between the transaxle and the hub could be bad and ratcheting under load.
