 Gator jerks forward

When you press on the gas pedal of my gas TH 6x4 gator it does not move forward slowly and smoothly but jerks forward to start off. Other wise it drives fine. I replaced the belt at 800 hrs even though it was still within spec and it seemed to help. Now after only another 200 hours it has started again. I assume something else is possibly wearing, but what. Clutch buttons appear fine. Can the primary clutch on engine be opened up to take a peek without removing?

 Gator jerks forward

Mr Chris;
We used to have that problem after we ran them in the fields picking rocks, it seemed to be just collecting dirt and dust that would let The sliding half of the pulley kinda bind up. I just gave it a good dose of WD-40 to flush the dirt and it would work fine.
This was just my incident so you may have another problem. There is a fellow called Gatorraider that is on here who knows lots more than I do, perhaps he will have a better answer.

 Gator jerks forward

Thanx hardwood. I tried your suggestion and thought it worked yesterday but when I drove it out of our shed this morning it jerked forward again. I think I will try and remove the bell cover off the clutch and see what I can see. There appear to be four screws that hold it on. Searched some more posts and saw mention of a superlube product that can be sprayed inside.

 Gator jerks forward

I worked on the gator yesterday. First I removed the mufffler to get better access to the clutch. I loosened the four screws on the bell housing. I thought I might have to pry the housing open but there is some type of spring tension which pushes it open. The housing's purpose is more than just being a cover. I was able to get about a 2" clearance to see inside. You have to remove the drive chain if you want to take the housing completely off. The rollers appeared to be in good shape and it was clean inside. I sprayed some teflon based lubricant on the rollers and then retightened up the housing. Frankly, I'm not sure it improved any. This morning when I went to drive it out of the shed it jerked forward again. After you initially move the gator it starts out smooth and fine. We do a lot of stopping and starting as we use the gator to pick up manure piles from around the pastures. It seems worse after the gator has been sitting for an extended period of time and mainly on that initial start up. I was hoping to see how the clutch was working with the bell housing off but I'm assuming it won't work with it off. Am I wrong?

MrChris;
You're getting to a point now where I haven't had to go so far. So If you are going to continue on your own then perhaps someone here who has been there or a tech. manual would be a good next step.
Frank.

If the rollers are in good shape with no flat spots, that doesn't really leave much else. There is a big spring which could be broken. You mentioned that replacing the belt seemed to work for a while,and I wonder if you were aware that the belt is directional, i.e. the arrow on it should be pointing to the front.
A forum member has very kindly put the appropriate tech. manual (TM1518) on line for downloading. See the thread entitled TH6X4 Wiring Diagram for the link to it.

 Gator jerks forward

Thanks guys. The belt is on in the right direction. I downloaded the manual mentioned but it is for the older 6x4 model and even though the machines are different, there still is alot of good info. The gator like I mentioned is working great, drives smooth, has lots of power,etc. I thought I might be able to avoid a more expensive fix down the road by just investigating the jerky movement now. I'll have to wait and see if it gets worse.
