6x4 electrical shuts down then starts working again

We have three mid 90's Gator 6x4's which have been incredible tools for property maintenance. Recently we have one that has been acting up in an odd manner. During normal use, the electrical system will just shut down, killing the motor, dash lights, dump bed and everything electric powered along with it. We have not dug too far into this problem yet, because for some reason the power will return on its own after a short period of time. The yard guys have been joking that, "it just needs a rest because it's tired". I feel otherwise. I am guessing that it is possibly a relay that is preparing to break permanently.

Any help, or useful insight on this would be GREATLY appreciated as we are somewhat limited on Gator Electrical knowledge around here.

Thanks,
Shmoishere

Not familiar with Gators but I'd first check the battery terminals and ground. Then I'd jump all the safety cutoffs (e.g., under the seat), and if that solves it, reconnect them one at a time. Otherwise, wait till it happens and do basic electrical troubleshooting.

I've already checked the battery and connections. Everything is tight and clean. the battery is fully charged. I removed all connections to assure this and re-attached. On our Gators there are no safety cut offs. With that being said, I am at the point of checking into the basic electrical test. However, where does a guy start? I am guessing there are relays or solenoids that would be first priority. My hunch is that something such as an electrical component is going out. It just doesn't "feel" like a short circuit or poor ground.

Thanks,
SHMO

The only solenoid is one which is activated by the 'Neutral' switch in the transaxle, and it only affects the starting circuit.
EVERYTHING goes through the key switch on the dash. The wiring loom plugs into this switch, and my money would be on a dirty connection, or at worst a faulty switch.

Thanks a bunch! I will take a look at the wiring of the switch and check the condition of the switch itself. Perfect answer I was looking for.

Just one more thought.... there are three fusible links at the battery end of the wiring harness. They were somewhat corroded in an old 6X4 that I recently restored.
With the engine running, reach down and give the harness a good shake. If the engine dies, the prob is somewhere in this area. Good luck...
