AMT600 Screwy tire situation What is this supposed to look like

I inherited an AMT600 from my grandfather and I am on my way to restoring the whole thing. I have some very basic questions for those of you who own one:

1. Have you replaced your tires and what ones did you use?
The manual says to use 22.5 x 10.00 - 8 for the front and 25 x 12.00 - 9 for the four in the rear. I just put on Deestones. a 22 x 11 - 8 in the front and 25 x 12 - 9 in the rear.

Apparently there is quite alot of variation in what a 25x12-9 can look like. The Deestones are very donut shaped while Carisle's have a very flat contact surface with the ground.

Right now my center tires are completely off the ground. I know that the middle axle rides higher than the front and back to make steering easier.

2. This is not correct, right?
3. Anyone else run into these problems?
4. The 22x11-8 front tire should ride lower than a 22.5x10-8 right?
5. What am I missing here.
Since my brakes are shot. I have not driven it.
6. Will the rear axle engage if the center is off the ground or will the center axle have all the power transferred to it and just spin?

Thanks.

I'm sure the 600 designers didn't care how it sat with after market tires on it. There is a HUGE variation in tire heights and profiles. Yes, your one tire should be 1/2 inch taller etc, but as you say the Carlisle tire has a flat profile while other after market tires do not. Air pressure is critical, there should be around 5 psi in the tires. Make sure they are all equal. As far as the center tire being mounted higher, I think you will find that all the axle housings are mounted the same way on the frame. You probably shouldn't have asked your last question, assuming you have drive chains on yours.
