6X4 gator making a clinking noise when driving
My 6X4 gator makes a noise like the chain is slipping, except it's not, or maybe like a gear is grinding. It only makes the noise when I'm moving, usually when I'm under some kind of even slight load (going at a moderate speed, or up/down a hill, etc). I raised the back wheels off the ground and ran the gator in gear wide open and it didn't make any noise, with 2 or 4 wheel drive engaged. The chain isn't slipping, I drove it with the bed raised while it was making the noise and could see it's not slipping plus I checked that it's adjusted correctly.
I'm wondering if this sounds like a problem with a wheel bearing, the teeth on the axle or something in the transaxle (or something else)? Fluids are all good as well. I can't tell exactly where the noise is coming from even though I've tried with more than one person to try and pin-point it.

I have this same condition in my 6X4 - in my case i know that there are two badly worn links in one of the chains and they are the source of the noise.

That's helpful, thanks. I'll take a closer look at the chains and see if I can find anything worn.
I appreciate the feedback.

Rear drive chains need to be lubed or replaced.

I lubed up the chains with chainsaw bar and chain oil and it worked like a champ! Thanks for the feedback. I sure thought it was something went bad in the transaxle, sure glad it wasn't that!
