Gator runs but wont fully accelerate
A 2000 gator 4x2 that runs/starts fine, but when accelerated, it stalls. This started out minor, but, progressed to accelling very little. When starting, it will do a few mph, but then drops to almost idle. I'm not at all savy as it belongs to a lady friend. It is her "pride and toy", can someone guide me to the problem?
Oh, I was told by a JD shop to back off the brakes, it was not the problem. I used to be able to get full throttle when in neutral, but it wont at all now.

Gator runs but wont fully accelerate
it could be many things - Carb, bad gas, clogged fuel filter, bad ignition problem. I usually start with the easiest and cheapest things, drain the fuel if it has been sitting for a long period of time and replace the fuel filter, then pull the spark plugs, then check the ignition module, then try cleaning the carb/re-build.

Gator runs but wont fully accelerate
If I have ever had any gas engine that did not like to sit idle as much as the one in our Gator sure don't remember it. I have learned to use it year round, use Sta-bil in gas, and drive it as often and wide open as I can. What worked to clear ours up was carb cleaner in gas, running as full throttle as it would with left hand working choke. Ours did clear up.

Gator runs but wont fully accelerate
Thanks for the reply's...We have changed plug, fuel filter, gas to hi-test, added sta-bil and a few other things I am forgetting just now. Nothing has worked, it progressively got worse. I wonder about two things, one, is the carb clodded up? and, reckon the muffler collasped inside and is restricting air flow?
I will try another round of carb cleaner and see what happens...thanks again.

try taking the carb off and soaking it in gas or solvent, if that does not work it is time to take it to the shop or rebuild it if you feel confident enough to do so.
