John Deere Gator 6x4 only runs on choke
I don't know if it will help or not, but I had a very similar problem with my 4X2 gator. It was really getting agrivating. I did a few things like change the fuel and air filters but what really ended the problem for my was adjusting the carb idle up just a little. Never touched it before, so can't explain why that would have changed, but it's been several months for me and my machine is still running well withou the stalling issue. My workhorse is back to carrying me thru my daily duties. The adjustment was very slight, but enough to fix the issue.
I hope this will help you. Good luck.

John Deere Gator 6x4 only runs on choke
I have an early 90s 6x4 gas gator, have had it for 14 years. I had similar problem, carburetor was gummed up from gas. I dis-assembled it, used compressor to blow out gunk, cleaned everything and that got it running again.

While your carb is off, soak it for an hour or so (more is better) in Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) to dissolve any varnish and deposits. It's also a good idea to run a piece of fine mechanic's wire gently through the jets (do not force it in any way) to clear any stubborn leftovers. I've had to do this on several pieces of equipment - particularly those that sit unused for extended periods.

John Deere Gator 6x4 only runs on choke
been there, done that, spent a bunch of $ when I didn't need to. rules are no html posting but if you'll go to the search box, while you're in this forum, and search on my username you'll find what my deal was (mr. mopar started the thread). I did clean the carb, which needed it, but the root cause having to run with the choke was the cheap little plastic restrictor had fallen out of the air intake tube.
I put the bigger jet in but didn't really need it. good luck.
