2001 JD 6x4 Engine losing power
Help! My Gator is losing power under load. It starts backfiring going up hill. I can jack it up and runs fine. Replaced plugs, fuel filter. Checked oil, water, transmission fluid. It has almost 500 hours on it. Started smoking when letting off the gas pedal going down hill last summer. I'm losing antifreeze somewhere, no leaks on the driveway, though. Any ideas? Thanks!

Good idea. No visible obstructions, sprayed with carb cleaner & WD 40. No improvement. Have you had any experience with a coil failure? When I replaced the plugs, one was in great shape, one was very dirty with raw gas. Both were replaced about 100 hours ago. Thank you for your help!

Head gaskets don't always put water in the oil. It may not be blown bad enough to do much more that use up coolant. If it is a head gasket, sooner or later it will start pumping compression into the coolant cavity and turn the light on. Lots of times a blown head gasket won't even show up on a compression test.

Perhaps head gasket- check your dipstick. It may smell like gas a little and if it does it's a good indication. JD mechanic told me the puff of smoke out the back is real typical of head gasket. bout $350.00 at JD dealership. mine just did the same thing and that was the fix. good luck.
