can someone explain to me what the (sensor?) that screws into the side of the carb on my 6x4 carb that has 12volts going to it with the key on is and how it functions. By bench testing it it gets hot. It doesn't seem to be a valve because it doesn't activate any needle or passageway. There also is a ground wire under the base of it that goes to the carb mounting bolt? I know that alot of commercial mowers use these Kaw engines. Is this unique to John Deere? Thanks and looking forward to some enlightment.e

I think you will find it is an ignition control component, various manufacturers have developed anti-backfire and anti-knock systems with such sensors on the carb.

It is all in an effort to meet newer emission standards.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the response Murf! I took the carb to a dealer service manager today and he said it was a heater but could not say why it's there. I'm going to put it back together and run it awhile to see if it is tied to a temperature switch and goes off after the motor is at operating temperature. The reason for my interest is after the motor gets hot it begins to run bad. The thermostat has been changed and the system filled to the manuals direction. IF the heater in the carb doesn't go off then maybe it's vapor locking. Anyway I should know tomorrow. Again thanks for your response.....bigfred
