Tractorpoint could be a good resource
While searching for information on tractors (John Deere initially) I came across this site and thought it may provide some good information. I believe it still can, but I would caution New comers to beware of the self-appointed "Tractor Gods", I found them to be arrogant, rude, and basically intolerant of anything they think of as not being important to people asking the questions. The first major step in this area of interest, is the purchase of a tractor, a costly event, and I appreciate everything someone has to say on the subject, even it it concerns letting me know about a dealer, after all, some us just joined this site and arent aware of many of the things the "tractor gods" take for granted. They should also look up the meaning of SPAM, and they would find they are using the term in-appropriately. Ignore those folks and you can find a wealth of valuable information from others here.

Im fairly new and inexperienced on tractor boards myself but Ive been a member of other message boards for some time. Not to sound like Im defending anyone because I dont know what particular person or event you are referring to, but, in general I think a person needs to be a little more forgiving and rude tolerant on these boards than in person. The written word sometimes comes off harsher than the spoken word.
I belong to a couple off-roading forums and have met several people from them. These are people that I thought to be rude online but in person turned out to be pleasant.
You will always have a few internet blowhards that when confronted face to face will be much quieter but I think the majority are nice people that come off as rude in writing only because they cant be as expressive as they would be in person.
In general what Im saying is dont be to critical or sensative and remember that you probably appear harsher than you intend to also.

dcrouch, as bnrhuffman mentioned; I am not sure of what instantance in particular you are referring to. Sorry your first experience here turned out that way. Hope you will give things another try as there are many folks here that can offer a LOT of help, experience, and just plain ole' thinking outside the box.

Maybe the "tractor gods" know something about the "free lunch" concept.
Bananas are cheap in central america. They cost a little more in Texas and you need a bank loan to buy them in some parts of Alaska. No-brainer. Same with tractors and other commercial goods.
Your post about saving 300 bucks on a 20,000 dollar, cross country tractor deal is a perfect example. Why bother? Some of us have seen this sort of thing so often that we can tell you the outcome before you ask.
You are still going to need fluids, filters and dealer support. And you will probably end up with regionally produced implements that have no dealer or warranty support this side of the mississippi.
In the end you will likely pay more than if you bought locally. No free lunch.
Please understand. I am NOT demeaning you.
I get ticked at the guys who should know better. That is the guy on the east coast who is trying to sell you something, knowing you are 3000 miles away. The reason the prices are higher in California is that your local dealer has to pay to have the damn thing shipped and so do you.
That said, I can tell you how you can save a little money from your location. But you will spend a lot of time and throw the dice on dealer support with my idea too.
Anyway, stick around. You are clearly an independent, critical thinker who will be an asset to the board.

dcrouch, Be gentle. This is a very good forum and has alot of information from its vast members. As has been stated some folks just aren't as good at saying what they want to say typing, as in person. I am one of those folks. I can think better talking to a face than I can a computer screen. Having that said you must understand, Just because someone has 5 tractors under thier name doesn't necessarily
mean they are very knowledgeable about tractors or the present subject, It means they have posted 500 or more post. They may be new to the tractor forum also, they have just made alot of post. Someone can be here for 2-months and post 500 times or be here for 7-years and only post 200 times. If someone is spamming you please let the board admin. know, then please hang around and you will see who the knowlegeble ones are and asked questions until your blue in the face

It is up to the ones like me who know little about tractors to let let the rare rough comments roll off our backs and recognize the good information that shines through. That's how you become smarter. You have to look stupid to become smarter. I have lots of experience in this department.

There are, I think, 4 stages to adult learning.
1st.. Unconscious Incompetence. (You have no idea what you don't know.)
2nd....Conscious Incompetence. (How could I be so stupid?)
Next....Conscious Competence. (Wait... I can do this... give me a minute to remember...)
4th....Unconscious Competence. (I can do this with one hand tied behind my back, in my sleep, on a dark night standing on one foot while singing The Star Spangled Banner.)

dcrouch, I believe you are referring to me in your complaint. I apologized to you already for the tone of my post but I remain unabashadly anti-spam. If that makes me a "self-appointed tractor god" (Archdean apparently agrees) then so be it, but I can't see how arguing against spam makes one a tractor god. Perhaps an anti-spam god 
As far as the definition of spam goes, I typed "define spam" in a google search and the very first definition that popped up (link attached) said this:
Spam - Unsolicited "junk" e-mail sent to large numbers of people to promote products or services. Sexually explicit unsolicited e-mail is called "porn spam." Also refers to inappropriate promotional or commercial postings to discussion groups or bulletin boards.
Note the last sentence of the definition. You are new here, and you may believe that in the context of your post the spam was appropriate, but these guys have been soliciting business in threads here on and off for months and many are getting tired of it.

dcrouch, Now that I have been smart enough to read the history to your post I must add, We here do frown on adverts in the post. It's nice to mention a dealer to someone that may be in the area, but not to beat it too death.

I try to be a nice guy most of the time. But when I see some one thinking of buying a tractor so far away I know the consequences. See I am a mechanic for a New Holland dealer. I see what happens when people do this. Some thing happens to there tractor and there purchasing dealer is miles away but they have a local dealer a block down the road. Well that local dealer is not going to jump out of there seat to lose money on a warranty job when they never made any money on the sale. That is why 1 shop around find a good price. 2 Take that price to your local guy I can almost guarantee they will come darn close to it. Now they might not beat it but you have the piece of mind knowing that if you have a problem he will be there for you.
I know I beat this subject to death but it is the truth. Save Little bit now, spend a whole lot later.
