Why is there no toyota diesel
I am still waiting for my ideal truck, a toyota diesel.
Does anyone know why they are not sold in the US?

Why is there no toyota diesel
I thought about this question last night and I am not exactly sure what the answer is, here is my read.
Toyota does make diesels and sells a lot in other countries. They sold the diesel Landcruiser in Canada for a bit but with drew them off the market again.
I think the main reason they don't, is that the engines they have are a little under powered for the NA tastes.
If you recall when they introduced the Tundra they had to design and build a new V8 engine for the truck. The T100 with the V6 never sold well. The cost of tooling for new a diesel is large and would only be a portion of the truck sales. You need the the larger 2-3 ton market to support the design and build costs.
In prospective only one of the NA big 3 has its own engine in their pickup and they used Deere and Izuzu help to engineer it.
Maybe we could talk Toyota into a CAT powered option. I think that would be a good combo.

Why is there no toyota diesel
Toyota used to make a small pickup with a diesel engine (early 80's). Freind of mine had one and it went forever and ever. Long after the cab and body rusted away. He patched and patched and replaced parts with treated wood just because the diesel kept on running. It was not an overpowering power plant, however.

I bet it got great mileage.
I rented a little minnie/minnie Winnebago once, the one they built around a Renault diesel chassis.
Zero to sixty times were best measured with an hourglass, but that little sucker got about 28 mpg if memory serves. Not bad for hauling around kitchen sinks and flush toilets. My wife nicknamed it "the wonder puppy".

Why is there no toyota diesel
I saw a VW 4x4 camper once from Australia. I guess he was going around the world literally.
It had a diesel, 4x4 and a snorkel for those deep water crossings.
I am not sure how deep I would go. I am sure my wife would shoot me if the pots were floating in the cupboards.
I saw some class C units, the other day, locally that had a VW van front end. Maybe?

I'd really like to see Toyota make a 3/4 ton with a Yanmar Diesel in it. Yanmar makes big Diesels for marine use, The local Hinckley Boat Comp. puts 320hp and larger Yanmars in there Famous Party Boat. Why not Vehicles?

Power to weight and EPA are not as important in a marine engines in none planing hulls. I suspect they are too heavy for the app.

Why is there no toyota diesel
My brother bought a new Datsun diesel pickup back in the early 80's. Like Kay said about the Toyota, it ran and ran then ran some more. It was still running good long after the body self distruct. He bought it to drive back and forth to work. If I'm not mistaken, it only had about 60 HP. So about all it was good for was going down the road.
