Dennis - help - Login Logout

Usually at work I just read as an unregistered user but on a few occasions I login. When I am done I logout. The site's toolbar then comes up that I need to login again - which is how it should be. It also doesn't let me read the full threads. Again, just as it should work. If I come back to the site even after exiting explorer the TractorPoint Members Online NOW still shows me as being online even though it is asking me to sign in. I go into explorer's internet options delete cookies and temporary internet files and recent history and restart my computer. When I go back to TractorPoint.com even though it is asking me to login it still shows me as being online in the TractorPoint Members Online NOW list.

What's up?

Maybe it is a timing thing? I just came back online after about an hour or so and when I came back to the site my user name no longer showed up on the TractorPoint Members Online NOW list until I logged back in.

How does it all work.

Thanks,
Dave

I believe the user list logic is this. Each time you click on a link within tractorpoint an inactivity timer is reset, and then starts counting down. If the timer goes to zero then your name drops off the list. Through observation my guess is that the inactivity timer is around 15 minutes. A logout probably doesn't immediately remove your name from the list.

That's essentially it, all user activity is logged to a database, we delete all userids older than a specified session timeout since the last click.

There is no relationship to the cookies or anything on your PC, so do not bother with changing that, everything is done on the server.

If you think it is important that you not be shown in the active user list as soon as you signout out that could be done if enough people want it.

Thanks Dennis & kwschumm. After I saw what happened and thought about it I figured that it was a timing thing. I don't think that it is important to not be shown in the active user list as soon as you signout. I was just curious as to why I was still there because I just wanted to be sure that I was logged out.

Keep up the great work!
