What Air Compressor should I get
Anyone have any opinions on semi-portable air compressors? Just looking for one to use for tire inflation, framing nailers, brad nailers, and general shop use. I really don’t want to spend more than $400. Would like something that is decent, and is going to last. Any suggestions? Previous threads seem to recommend a oil-lubricated, 2-stage. What about temperature issues? … I’ll probably be using this in very cold temperatures at times. Thanks!

What Air Compressor should I get
I have 3 compressors, a small air station for pumping tires that I have had for years. A 220V two stage for the shop which is in pieces and a one stage portable. I have had the single stage direct drive for a number of years and a lot of nailing.
For nailing and tires you need some thing quite portable unless you are doing a lot of shop work I would buy a good portable unit.

What Air Compressor should I get
I have a Campbell-Hausfield horizontal 16 gallon/5HP oil-less that was a new factory refurbished that came out of a local surplus dealer for $160.00. Use that for tire blow-up, painting and blowing out sprinkler systems. This can also be used for frame nailing, etc. I also have a Harbor Freight Chicago Pneumatic (Chinese) 2 gal/2Hp oil type for $89.00 for tire blow-up and for transport that can be used with a 3500 Watt generator in remote situations. Harbor Freight also has a 20 or 21 gallon vertical/5or6 HP oil type for $160.00. Don't know if you have a local store but you can buy online or get on their mailing list.

What Air Compressor should I get
I think Yoop and Peters have it covered. Just about anything will do based on your listed needs. A small unit may not be good if you are trying to fill a large tractor tire that was flat or if you are trying to run air-powered tools other than nailers. I've got a bigger 35 gallon unit that is on wheels. I move it around, but it's not as portable as others. It has it's limitations. But it does fill a tractor tire.

What Air Compressor should I get
Be sure to look at your tools and find the CFM and pressure needed. I have two nailers and one uses very little and the other can keep my 5 1/2 HP running if you are willing to work.

What Air Compressor should I get
Watch out for the largest 110 Volt compressors. I've seen up to 5 HP compressors that will plug into 110. The problem is if you need to use any substantial extention cord. With a cord longer than 20 ft or so the voltage drop can be enough that the compressor won't start. Most can be rewired for 220 but that takes away much of the portability.
