On three occasions over the years, I've added something to a thread that extended past tractors. Each time, right after, the entire thread disappeared. Is it just my imagination or a coincidence, or is there someone who watches for any post that deviates from the narrow path?

For instance, the most recent case was on a Shibaura thread. I contributed various replies and all was fine. Then, responding to the incorrect assumption that Shibauras are Chinese, I mentioned that Shibaura owners might be interested to know that the company started with the Toshiba people, and that the name "Toshiba" is a contraction of "Tokyo Shibaura," Shibaura being a district of Tokyo. And I gave the Japanese town where Shibauras are now made. Was that unpardonably off-topic?

Naw, I read your post and there nothing offensive about it. If anything some of the stuff I come up with SHOULD be censored, but good ol' Moderator Murf slaps my wrist (with a HAMMER no less), and I edit myself: example: the joke about a Kubota guy and a Deere guy, the Deere guys says to the >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CENSORED>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> and they both bought New Hollands.

Or how 'bout a piece of string walks into a bar and the bartender says they don't serve string. Dejected the string walks out. To change his appearance, he ties himself in a knot and messes up his "hair" a bit. He walks back in. The bartender says, "Hey aren't you a piece of string?" To which the string replies, "NOPE! I'm a frayed knot". (Kenny that was a play on words--get it? "afraid not"--"a frayed knot" tehehe

There was nothing wrong with your shibaura - toshiba - chinese post. FWIW, moderators do not have the ability to delete threads. That's why spam posts get heavily edited and the topic changed to SPAM instead of just deleting them.

If threads disappear when new posts are added to old threads it sounds more like a bug.

Oh Dennis...

I think the thread you're thinking about was a duplicate, the OP posted the same basic message in two different sections of the board. Someone (Greg I think) pointed that out and one was abandoned.

You happened to post on the one that was abandoned.

Best of luck.

Hi,

I am the only one who can delete anything in bulk, the poster of any given message can edit it for a short time after posting, and during that short time they can delete their own message, but not the entire thread.

Examples of stuff that gets deleted is SPAM ads for things no one is interested in, or self promotion for personal gain, and duplicate threads as Murf pointed out.

I find your posts very informative, so I doubt it was deleted intentionally. Sometimes doing upgrades, code changes accidents could happen ....

Keep up the great contibutions!

Dennis

AB, I found your info very good also. Think the problem is in the searching. The thread is still there or was for me just a few seconds back. Best way I have found to search for such is to click on someone you know who posted there and look for their post and then expand the thread. There may be a better way but for me best way.

Murf, think he quoted Visa's commerical a while back, but his spelling is really getting priceless. Ole, nope watching the spelling recently it is OLD Jeff old boy, your spelling has really taken hits and not just in this thread. Now don't you try to blame your eyes, you are still a wet nose youngin. Smile
