Do Many of you use a PDA or Moible Internet Phone

I recently made the plunge into improved communications and organizer tools. So now I can hook my telephone to my PDA and look at internt sites on my PDA or Phone.

When doing this I could see how looking at the TractorPoint site would be hard because of the small screen and also the enormous cost of downloading all the content.

Since I travel I like to see what is going on at the site when I am at an airport or other disconnected location.

Do any of you have a similar situation?

Would a PDA / Phone version of TractorPoint have any users? Or is this too early an idea for most TractorPoint members?

I figure I would only create a list of active subjects for the day. then link to the most recent message and have a "first" "previous" and "next" options and only display a portion of the message rather than dump the whole thing, and give you the option to reply.

Any thoughts appreciated, I may make it anyway to meet my needs.

Dennis

My PDA is a pencil and a notepad. My cell phones are the "old" (2 years) stupid kind. I am on a phone modem at 28.8 Kbps and my tractor isn't computerized, even though it is Green. I feel so inadequate. So Sad

My opinion is that PDA's are nearly useless for most internet work. If I'm at an airport I use my laptop.

Dennis I carry a laptop with me. I'm usually in a truck all day during the season. Many times I've considered taking the plunge into hooking to landline but the slowness of file transfers stops me, especially the toll charges for 30 minutes or so on line.

I have state of art digital phone and that ain't worth diddley squat in the boonies. Of course that is usually where I get get some free time cause no one else can communicate either. Oh yeah I have the cable for that to use on the laptop but do not use because of so many reception problems (and distractions) while moving, plus it would be slower than pond water.

So I only use voice communications. I also use a lot of GPS software. I've looked into pda's for simplified GPS and notes so maybe I'll relook the phone and PDA issue.

PS I'm home every night, usually, except when I'm skiing or at Atlantic City then who cares about communications...

I can not see getting away without the laptop at this point. I need the input devises when travelling. I am either making corporate presentations or doing process experiments. I carry a light laptop.

Maybe if I had a PDA I'd write less. I'll likely never get into newer tech stuff. I don't travel much--probably because I live in a place where other people want to come to. There's no digital cell service here or high-speed net access so the fancy new stuff doesn't work. My cell phone came before stupid.

For a low tech traveling solution, most public libraries now have no charge public Internet stations. I am a board member of what might be the smallest public library in N.A. We have a public Internet station, and if we can any library can. People drop by from area campgrounds to keep up with their net stuff and you don't have to be a resident of the Township. If you're in the country, chances are that there's a nearby library that offers similar services.

I have a wireless palm pilot, but I pretty much only use it for changing travel plans and doing some limited email when I am traveling. It stays in the charger when I am at my office.

My cell phone will do internet, but I generally find that it is more useful to connect the cell phone to the laptop to do anything serious. It is hard for me to imagine that I would access CTB on the cellphone, because "tapping" in an email on phone keys is a pain and very slow. The other negative is cost. The only time that I am not near a computer almost continuously is when I travel and then roaming and per-minute charges for cellphone usage add up.
