New SPAM SCAMs Be CAREFUL out there
In the last five minutes two emails arrived in my inbox that are SPAM scams.
One email was from "MS Customer Support" and had an attachment that purported to be the latest security update. The email looked very legitimate, and explained that you should click on the attachment to install. DO NOT DO THIS! The email is a FRAUD, and if you look at the email headers they are obviously NOT from Microsoft.
The second was from "Storage System" and had a subject line of "Error Announcement". The message text explains that an email you sent is undeliverable, and the email is attached to the message. The attachment is NOT an email message you sent, it is an executable file that probably will install a virus or do some other damage to your system. Do NOT click on that one either.
Be careful out there! Be suspicious of ANY email you receive from ANY source - these spammers and hackers are masquerading as very legitimate organizations and if you click on one of their attachments it will likely do some damage.

New SPAM SCAMs Be CAREFUL out there
Good note! The ones Ken mentions are pretty active at the moment. My ISP has a cheap service that catches most of that stuff, whether it's malicious or not. It's been pretty good and only one virus has gotten through to my Norton stuff. The firewall catches more stuff although much of it may be false alarms. It's worth having protection and services from my ISP as well. The big problem is having friends who have poorly protected computers and send you e-mail. Then you are on their e-mailer address list and can get a bunch of stuff that looks like it's from a friend. E-mail from MS does raise my warning flag as I've never thought of them as friends.

New SPAM SCAMs Be CAREFUL out there
Just moments ago I checked my e-Mail and got a notice of a cumulative patch under a very official looking Microsoft banner.
It didn't get very far because my Norton virus scan caught it and slammed it. Thanks for the heads up!

Here's another one. I received an email from eBay asking me to go to a web site and verify my information. The URL would send me to a web site alright, but it wasn't an eBay web site! This is another fraudulent effort to gather your personal information and credit card numbers.
If you ever need to check your eBay info go to your secure eBay account and check or change it from there, don't change it in response to an unsolicited email.
